Rebuilding the Windows 2000 / XP Boot Sector

You can use the following steps to rebuild to Windows 2000 or Windows XP boot sector. This approach may solve problems which manifest themselves in the form of the "blue screen of death". In fact it might be best to try this first to enable you to enter the system using "Safe Mode"

1. Boot the computer with the Windows CD in the drive (ensure that you bios /cmos is set to boot from CD).
    

2. At the relevant menu choose "R" for Repair
    

3. At the repai options menu choose "C" for the recovery console.
    

4. Type " fixboot c: " where c: is the drive letter of the drive where the boot sector need rewriting.
    

5. Reboot after removing your Windows CD.

.... and that's it your done.
