If you are going to attempt work in the System or User
Registry or any windows system files it is strongly advised that you do the
following before you start work.Backing up the Registry in XP
- Go to Start, Run and enter regedit in the text field,
and Click OK
- In the left panel, click My Computer once to highlight
- Click File, Export...
- In the Export Registry File window, click on the
Desktop icon on the left side
- In the File name: text field enter a file name, like
NAV2005 and click Save.
- Click File, Exit to close the Registry Editor
(NOTE: To restore the registry, double-click the Registry
file you that you saved, then click Yes.)
To create a Restore Point in XP:
- Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools,
System Restore
- In the Welcome to System Restore window, select the
Create a restore point radio button and click Next >
- Follow the prompts
